Counting Down to the End

Okay so I know it seems like I'm only doing my flash game, but the truth is there are many other projects I need done...for school. However, don't worry I will continue modifying these projects before actually releasing them publicly on a larger scale. Like I mentioned before for my first flash game, I'm working on the actual coding and programming so it can run, after I finish and graduate I will keep all of the basic scenery and characters you have been seeing over these past few weeks, but will add more contrast to each level, and give them a personality all their own as well as adding more characters, levels and bring them to life to a level that is allowed for a flash game.

Today, however, so I don't feel I'm repeating myself I just recently finished another project today. A project for a video editing class for another one of my professors. The project was to basically do a five minute video of anything of our choice. The original choice was a little parody of 8-mile, you know the movie starring Eminem. Due to time however, and scheduling I was unable to stick with that idea and had to flip the script. So I decided to keep it simple where I would be an obnoxious interviewer asking my friend who was to play a local rap star some question. We stuck with that but, changed it up a bit where we would have fun with it and instead just let it flow instead of following a particular script. Luckily my good friend Sal was willing to help and we managed to get more done then we need, so I would like to say thank you Sal, I owe you one. Anyways That's done and all I have to do is go to class tomorrow and cut it, mash it up, add some credits, an intro and maybe some other fancy effects here and there.

Oh and by the way my site is almost done Just have to connect it to my email and set it up so I can host it on the net for you all to see as well as get some of my greatest work over the time at being at the College of Westchester and use on my portfolio page of my site, for your viewing pleasure. I'll report later with my latest news and progress on where I am with all of my work. Being it's my last semester at CW I would like to go out with a bang with these finals.

Understanding Game Coding

So for the past few days I have done quite a lot of research in understanding action script. I realize there is a lot to this coding and functionality, and due to the deadline I have to meet, must simplify further my flash game. I find the movement will be simple action poses, and the coding will need to be set in a way so it can work properly. I have finished tracing and coloring action shots for my main character, I think however instead of making all character properly move I could keep the basic concept of movement without having all of the characters do striking poses jumping attacking, etc. I know what your thinking why am I doing this? Well since I have two weeks before my semester at the College of Westchester is over and so I can have something at panel review to show my professors that I can get the concept of action script. Don't worry though once everything is finished I will go back and not only fix the movement within the game but  take in all of the feedback my followers and friends on Facebook have given me. Trust me I do read all of your comments, even though I don't respond it's only because after I read them I immediately take notes and mark where I must utilize these pointers. I felt I had to rush due to the fact of certain circumstances dealing with school. Nothing bad or anything just issues I had. I feel though even with all of that I will focus deeply hard on this first flash game and modify for my fan's gaming needs. But I have mentioned before that this is just an alpha version the final version will be up though in a few weeks to a month, so check back often for future updates. However, my website will be up and running on schedule like I promised so I will also post information on future projects up there.

Beginnings of a Sequel

So I know its soon, but last night I got an idea for a new character. Since I already have so many for the first one, some of which i haven't shown yet due to the fact I'm only releasing the alpha version, the remaining mysterious, yet terrifying characters will be shown in the finished version of the game. No this character will be shown within the upcoming sequel, hoping that this first one will be a hit, and if not it is always good to say how things play out. although I know for a fact that the final version will be much better in graphics for a flash game as well as story and concept. Don't worry though I will not only be developing horror genre games, but in fact games of various different genres and characters for all ages. However I'm so proud of this character that for the next two weeks or so I will be asking people to think about their worst nightmares. That one specific nightmare they felt was so real that when they woke from it were sure it was real. I'll be posting a picture of the creature and when you look at the imaging I have presented I want you to really think about what a nightmare is and think about the above question. In doing so think about what nightmare this beast reminds you of and come up with a clever name based on that. So far I got a few ideas from people on Instagram and from my niece, which was clever if i do say so myself. However I would like more ideas and after two weeks will narrow it down and then when I finally decide on the one I like will announce it in the sequel just to build up the anticipation.

Here are the names I have gotten and from who:

nrkevin-The Fallen One

thedrawingideas-Goro

my niece-Wakaflow

kenedy-St. Salazar the Destroyer

I will be posting up more names as they come but these were the ones I got. Thank you to everyone that presented a name I loved them all and would like to hear more. So let's keep it coming with the clever names, much appreciated.

Rap Interview

So I am still working on Sub Conscious, all I have to do is the action script like I said before, but two hours ago I sketched up a storyboard for a short video project starring Goonie Barz. An upcoming rap star, who has graced me with his presence and agreed to help with the video project. I couldn't be more pleased, with the outcome, and basically I will give you a better description of what is to be expected. So the video will start off as an interview starring me playing as Lectric Studios reporter Deacon Wallis, I know a very random name but, it just came to me, so I went with it. Basically I will interview Goonie Barz asking him questions like a normal reporter would do, however here is the twist. As Goonie Barz will try to answer i will immediately interrupt him preventing him from answering any questions. After awhile he will get agitated with me and give me a beat down, don't worry it won't be a real one its all staged acting. When I come to my senses he will then drive off in his truck leaving me without a story, which in this case is basically the point behind this project. I wanted to go with a comedic feel to this project. It will most definitely be on my Facebook, WWW. Facebook.com/electroshockgames, so you can check that in about two weeks. Also I will post to my site which I am still hoping will be up since I do have a deadline and projects just piling up, however I am a trooper so everything should be up with no problems otherwise i will be letting you all know before hand.

Aciont Script-Sub Conscious

So I finally finished my final level for Sub Conscious for the Alpha version. It looks so basic, but I just want to test the performance, for now, since I have little experience in action script. The tracing of characters and adding colors to my sketches is easy, and adding details will be no problem at all I just mainly need to focus on the game actually functioning. Why you ask? Well since this is a portfolio piece for my exiting of my college, it was about time I experimented with this, since I'm mainly focusing on game design as well as other digital media projects. Anyway I posted a snap shot to my Facebook profile, where anyway will be able to see and provide any feed back if necessary.

Final level-Sub Conscious

So I finally finished my final level for the Sub Conscious Alpha version. I posted a sketch of what I wanted the level to look like on my Face book, Twitter and Tumblr. Obviously I will have links to those sites so you can check it out and see what you think. Feedback is welcomed, either later tonight or tomorrow I will be starting the action script, for those of you that does not know what that is it's basically the coding to allow the game to work, I feel to be honest that will be the most difficult thing to do since I have never tried this before without the proper programs, but that will not stop me from completing this project for you guys. Although I have been going through a decent amount of hectic stress with many other projects I'm working on, I feel this will be my greatest accomplishment to date. I'll be posting up snap shots of the games animating process and game play as well as actual visual of the movement so in case I need anything to correct you, the fans can tell me what I need done. The only thing left is importing the final character into Flash which should be no problem at all, but I'll do that with the finished product, just to build some of the suspense.

Sub Conscious Progress

So I just finished level 2, and later today I will be working on a mini 4th level just to show how the levels tie together. I will be working on it later on today once I get the sketch to diagram how I want the layout to look like. Then if I have time I'll start to get some action poses ready to be traced so I can have everything on stand by for when I need to start the action script. So far for the second level just to get a little in depth of the progress I have re created a city street scenery, although I'm on a time limit I had to be basic, so the buildings aren't as detailed as they should be, don't worry though this is just an alpha version, the final product will look far better. My main focus on this is just getting it to look decent and run like an actual flash game. Below is an image of my second level tell me what you guys think.

Projects in Development

8:23
Tuesday, July 16, 2013

So I am currently working on a flash game known as Sub Conscious. First off let me apologize for not blogging for the past few months, but I have been very busy working on several different projects. One of which happens to be Sub Conscious, a game whose story is based on my own past experience. No I was not haunted by ghouls, nor did I have to fight monsters of unbelievably horrible disfigurement, but I thought it would be much more entertaining to completely exaggerate things to an extreme and allow you gamer fans to get an inside look into my head. I know I have mentioned what I'm working on before, but I figured it was time to go fully in depth with how I want this to turn out. The game revolves around our main character Dominic who wakes up in a twisted world of horrors ever unseen to this world or any other. He must battle through treacherous terrain and navigate through areas he recognizes, but are decayed by evils unknown. He faces monsters that are beyond scary or grotesque. However, there's a catch, Dominic recognizes these monsters, and further into this unknown realm of evil, he begins to realize these creatures of death and evil resemble people who he has either wronged or been wronged by in his own life. Deeper into the game we then come to see that we are not in another dimension or hell for that matter, which is what some of you might be saying. In fact we're in Dominic's own head as he is trapped in his own sub conscious. This is where the name derives from. See I decided to develop this game to not only give players the excitement they look forward to into a game but the true nightmares people face and not those that we experience while sleeping, even though that will have a part in the game as well, so we can't exclude that. Although I am working on other projects such as a short movie and two cartoon series, which I will later get into further detail later this week, I wanted everyone to prepare for a nightmarish yet cartoon like game.

Ticket to Ride

This was an okay game, although I really wished I watched the rest of the video for this game. After I started to realize that this game was in a way the same as Trans America. So I began to get the hang of it, although I felt it took too long to get through, the other team finished their game before we did. I think the only entertainment was when Fabian was getting beat on lol. Good times I will not forget. At one point I will admit it felt like I was elementary school again, preferably third grade when my teacher yelled at me just because I couldn't answer a question. Anyways I felt a lot of tension while playing this game, I wasn't even concerned with winning or really understanding what the concept of the game was, but rather how fast can we get this game over with, only because being it's finals week, and I needed to get my finals done.

Looping Louie

I think this was one of my favorite games we have played. It was simple but it reminded me of Hungry Hungry Hippo for some reason. I liked how we had to get the plane hit the other player's chickens. I really wanted to win, in the back of my head all I could think of was, I must win. I couldn't wait for my turn to come by so I can redeem myself. This game actually gave me an idea for a game for my final, which is good because it saved me loads of time, so I don't need to go crazy and I can completely get everything I need to out of the way. Either way I would rather play this again instead of other games we have played that were either too long or too many rules which annoyed me to no end. I felt I had a good time playing and I really couldn't get the whole winning situation off my head. I wished the game went longer, toward the end it got intense even after people were being eliminated.

September 12

Yeah, I have to say just the name alone makes it sound, a bit controversial.

US History Question game

Played this game that involved US History. I was teamed up with Fabian and Chris, and to be honest I am not good at US History, in fact I failed that class back in high school. Somehow we managed to get many of the questions right with and without the multiple choice. I really did not like this game one bit because it reminded of high school and I have bad memories from that place. So yeah I hope we don't play something like this again otherwise I'm quitting even before we start playing the game. All I could think though was that we have to win, I want to redeem myself and all those bad memories, the only thing going through my head was I must win.

Passage

I finally got to play this game Passage, after trying to get my laptop to become compatible so it can play it. When it first loaded up I thought it was going to be interesting and wild, however, there were no controls and I had to figure out what to do which was the first thing to annoy me. Then I realized I had to use one key which is obvious the forward key. The next problem, has to be that there was nothing else involved, and this game basically was what i would call a short story of the main character's life. it was what seemed the longest five minutes of my life. While playing I kept thinking to myself why is my teacher torturing me like this? I could not wait to finish, i could have stopped before going any further but, I needed to continue so at least I could say I finished this dumb game.

Pictionary (modified)

Played a modified version of Pictionary today, came in second place last I remembered. It was fun, didn't annoy me like that last game I played. However, some of the themes I did not know how to draw at all, but I still gave it a chance anyways. I was teamed with Randy on this one and we did pretty well knowing I can't do anything that reminds me of Hangman, etc. All I could think of was how fast can I guess the images drawn. What i didn't understand was why were there so many of those cards that had all teams come up, it was a random play of the game. This was a good game just not exactly what I was looking for so let's hope a later game can be something more of what I'm looking for in fun and excitement. Good try anyways with the whole keeping me entertained situation.

Jsuro

Played this weird tile game where we had to make paths and stay on the board as long as possible. Somehow I manage to lose first turn first round, which was annoying and pissed me off to no end. However, after learning from my mistake managed to stay on the board long enough to the end of the round. The game wasn't fun at first until I understood the concept of it. As tiles were being placed down I kept track of where the paths were leading. this helped me a lot so while others were trying to figure out their moves I managed to get the right tiles I needed in order to stay on a stead straight line. Honestly I'd rather not play this game again or even hear about it, I would rather try doing a crane origami than do this game again.

Dixit

Played another story telling game called Dixit. However, this one was different. Instead of writing we basically had use cards and guess who cards is whose. It was like 7-UP because some of the mechanics were the same. I did pretty well; I didn't win but was fair for me. In the back of my head though I got annoyed because I was unable to figure out whose story went with which person. I mean some I got right but, others I could not for some odd reason. At first i honestly felt intimidated because I felt I would not be able to get the mechanics of this game right away, which did kind of happen, however I managed to get it just from playing one round. I can't complain since I managed to get it anyways. I felt the problem was figuring out the historical figures my professor was using, which could have given a great advantage from the start.

What?

So I had to play a game where I'm given a card and I need to write a line or phrase to basically form what seemed like a short story. I thought it was interesting only because, the thought of what people would say. I was a bit annoyed because I unfortunately I couldn't come up with anything funny. The stuff I wrote was either dumb or plain, at least that's what it seemed like to me. I was hoping for something completely different when playing, but it was okay I guess just not preferable for a game i would play next time.

Settlers of Catan

Another strategy game that seemed very old fashioned. It reminded me of a nomad or a farmer, which was odd. There seemed to be too many steps involved in playing this, where you need to build a settlement and gather up points. I don't really like games like this where there are too many steps involved in the mechanics, its too much to remember while at the same time coming up with a strategy and beating your opponent. I was just trying to figure out what I should do, but this didn't last long because I blanked half way through and was lost the rest of the game play. I worried people would notice, luckily no one did and I still managed to get by, not surprising that I lost however, still good to have another game board experience under my belt so I was fine with that. I need to start trying to become more strategic and winning so I can start up a winning streak and brag about it. Doubt that will happen though.

Carcassone

This game reminded me of Labyrinth and Trans america  Using tile pieces to form out a certain image, create a certain path that sort of thing. Which is cool but, Trying to keep track of points and where locations are is a bit much. The cool thing was using the little colored people to represent token pieces, is interesting since we usually use objects like little train, mice, tokens, etc. Just had to take previously played games to get the hang of the mechanics of the game. Still not a fan favorite of mine but, it got the job done in trying to catch my interest. Hopefully we can play a game without using tile puzzle pieces to form a road or strip of land. Games like this make me blank for a while for some odd reason, maybe its the thinking of strategies to win.

1980's Lizard Wizard

I played Lizard Wizard and I honestly thought it was funny. I miss the popular arcade games are the best. Although while playing I didn't know really what to do or really how to play. I didn't remember how to play but I just tested things out and started shooting, I had to kill the green flying dragon thing. Then sirens go off and a blue dragon comes and starts shooting fire at me, which caught me off guard. I lost several times, which annoyed me. For some odd reason I thought of Wreck it Ralph while playing, I than started to blank out and stared at a start screen. I like the music in the background, it was very Dig Dug or Galaga, good stuff.

Cartagena

So we played this board game that reminded me a bit of Labyrinth. I didn't like it too much because of the fact I couldn't win at it. Maybe I was the brown piece and the game could possibly be racist  Even though the game was simple it had complex factors, which I picked up on easily. I didn't mind the ending result, but while playing I began to get a little anxious due to the fact I tried to figure out my next moves to push me up, however this wasn't effective enough. Knowing me and David couldn't get more than 3 pieces in a small boat bothered me, so I hope next game I can win, because I don't like losing as much.

Up the River

Played up the river and I have to admit I din't expect the game to be so simple. The funny part about that is even though its so simple, it was a long progressing game. While playing though, I thought to myself one of two things won't happen while playing; we wont win and this game will never end. I played with Ruben and David, luckily David won, so I was a bit glad the game ended. I wasn't a big fan of the whole constant moving the board down but, I guess it worked. It seemed better than playing Get the Glass which for some odd reason I did not like because it just seemed like it was against me. Although it did give the idea to design the game we did but we should have play tested it.

Get the Glass

I just finished fully playing Get the Glass, got the code and answered the question which was May I Please Get The Glass? Epic problem solving, it made sense though wit the game. While Playing the game I felt like the game would be lame and honestly it was a bit weird. Rolling the dice and being able get cards that allow you to move a few extra spaces. The mastermind cards where you can answer questions which I did not know at all but I still managed to get by just had to keep rolling the dice. Then the whole driving the dad's van through a narrow pathway, with a laptop was kind of hard but eventually I realized managed to control. Putting weird flowers in the chicks head to disguise her got me thinking how can this work you just adding flowers to messy hair, a loop hole in the game and putting the flowers on her hair annoyed me because every time I tried adding the flower it wouldn't go on. I didn't like getting caught all the time but luckily escaped and continued the game. While playing the game it reminded of the 3D movie shorts we watch in 3D modeling and animation. The Pixar like movies I watch as a child, creepy, anyways I just wanted to finish the game and at least say I did that, but I'm not sure if I could like the game that much not really interesting enough. Now I want milk.

Domino (Mexican Train)

So I played Dominoes in class today, and honestly I have to admit I love dominoes. I failed miserably in the first round but managed to win the second. I tried to plan out my moves based on what everyone else played. Easy game to play for me yet still kept me on my toes. Thought it was a bit racist though because of the Mexican Train part, but can't complain. I even managed to record a little of the game play which I will upload on my Facebook gaming page. Plus the best part was since I have had my hand in dominoes before picking up on the rules was fairly simple and really needed no explanation at all. Since others were familiar with the game the turns went at a good steady pace and there was a a comfort feeling while playing, the only big thing was the anticipation of what piece everyone else would put down. I had my pieces organized to help limit my numbers down much quicker, luckily I got a good I guess you can call it hand.

TransAmerica

Played Trans America  I got to say it was a bit of a weak game. I wasn't too fond of it but did play with a good group of people. I one the first round from what I remember, but we needed to play a quick three rounds and since I win from luck I wanted to use some strategic skill in where I placed my tokens or rail ways. Once it dwindled down to the remaining tracks my adrenaline began to kick in as I hoped people wouldn't be close enough to their locations before me. Sadly i could not win round two or three, but I think I got in the top three, I'm not sure I don't really remember. However there was a point where I would've pulled a sneaky move and be closer to victory, if Ruben didn't call me on it. It was cool though I'm just glad I got the concept of the game. Not a big fan of Trans America though, because there wasn't enough excitement while playing.

Pitch Car

We played a race car track board game called Pitch Car Mini. At first I thought it would be weird but, it seemed very simple with a few rules to make it fun. Apparently the game was like a smaller version of golf or miniature golf, with little tokens to assimilate cars. We played a qualifying race to see what order we would be racing in. Somehow I managed to get to the finish line in three tries, Legendary. Everyone else got like five, six and even nine+ tries to reach the finish line. So we went through our first race and I used epic finger skill to bounce my car to get me closer to the finish line and won the first race, Epic. Second race we went three laps one more than the first. I was losing but, began to realize if I wind up in last I can pick the next track which could play a part in my advantage in winning the next race. However, I did not I came in sixth I believe it was and Andrew R. came in last. So he picked, and when I went I pulled some more insane jumping moves. Wound up coming in first for awhile, however my victory was easily prevented when Bryan flicked his car and it somehow did a crazy bounce and pushed him into first place, and winning the final race. I couldn't believe it, so I went and took second place. At the end though I managed to win the game after adding my score up giving me the lowest which in this case is how you win and since I got the lowest tries for the qualifying wound up winning the game. AWESOME!!!

Bohnanza

I played a simple card game with pictures of different beans on them.We played in teams of two and I was with Ruben. I have to admit even after playing I completely blanked on the rules, and my negotiation skills were just terrible, which is why even Ruben had left early, I would've been stuck confused. Slowly I got the hang of it, but was still intimidated in some way I couldn't explain. I guess if I don't understand a game I don't like to feel like I have no clue as to what I'm supposed to do. So Usually going with the wing approach is a good strategy. What surprised me was hoe did Chris and Randy win when they gave away most of their coins. It bugged me because I was hoping to win. Next game trying harder and fully understanding the game to the max can be the best option for next game we play. Playing games are still fun it just annoys me when even explained I blank and have to catch up just to get some sort of an edge.

You Have to Burn the Rope

I played You Have to Burn the Rope and it was easy, I'm pretty sure I played the right game, however, I thought it was way to easy. All I had to do was collect fire and jump on protruding platforms to get over a Grinning Colossus and drop what looked like a chandelier.  It wasn't much of a challenge, I did get a cool badge and the music at the end was epic. It described every movement I did which isn't surprising because I'm yet again Awesome.

Abandon Ship

We played Abandon Ship in class, where were playing as a bunch of rats racing to the top before the ship sinks. I manged to earn 5 points the first round and 8 the second round. Now first playing even when the directions were explained to me I completely blanked and got confused to play, being intimidated by the competition. Playing through a little bit I began to understand the concept of the game and the dynamics set in motion and got the concept of the whole game. I don't remember if i got either third or second place overall, but either way I hope to get some extra points on the next quiz. While playing I felt determined to win since I haven't won a game or gotten first place.

Starbound

Okay so I was right I did play the wrong game. However I did enjoy the other star game. Now the concept was basically I play as a star and I need to jump from platform to platform as fast as possible. I played a few rounds and got into the game I manged to get a score of 20,853 which is not impressive but shows I was dedicated, even for a little bit of time. I watched my star jump as i configured my fingers a certain way to allow easier maneuvering. This helped along with the motivational techno like music I had to listen to on full volume while playing a a star jumping game. good thing though I now have another site to go to in my spare time. The weird thing about Star bound is i wasn't so concerned with keeping up with my jump but wondering if i would get to the top or if i would fall and have to start over, which I wound up doing several times until finally giving up. The cool thing also was it seemed like a Super Mario game with the power ups and sounds.

StarFall

I played Star Fall the other day, or at least I hope i played the right one. I looked it up and it was either the weird game I played or learning how to use phonics. From what I saw it was basically you play as a star and you have to come your star from hitting the ground and to do so, you need to bounce it off of other oncoming stars, while veering away from a supposed gray star I never saw because I only managed to get 4 bounces before giving up. The game wasn't as great as the games we usually play in class. It actually started to annoy me knowing I can't keep my star up longer than 4 bounces. Luckily it didn't get me mad enough to punch my computer. However while trying to find this game, I managed to find two websites where i can play other games online so it can make it easier to blog about them. SCORE!!! That part I was excited about, so now there is a chance to test out other online games instead of hassling to search for an individual one.

Labyrinth

Okay so today in class we played a simple puzzle board game known as Labyrinth. Now the basic concept of the game is you get a board and pieces assembled a certain way to form a what looked to be a maze. Now the rules are you get one extra piece of tile, 4 pieces to represent teams and you have to move the tile where in any spot where there are yellow arrows to show what areas can be moved now based on how you move will determine how far or fast you can get to your main objectives. Also each team gets a certain amount of cards with pictures on them to represent what treasures each team must get. I was partnered with Fabian, and in order for this to work we had to not only work together, but we also had to use our brains to determine a move to allow us to get to our objectives quicker. At first i didn't understand what i was doing because I'm not a puzzle person. This simple board game got us thinking, we started off slow but managed to follow behind the other teams which were ahead of us by either 1 or two cards. The game lasted a little longer than usual and no one really one, however the team that was close was Ruben and David's team, with fewer cards and by fewer, one. At the start I felt very confused and every time i managed to predict a move to help me and Fabian, it was countered. It's amazing how simple games like this can get me thinking and instead of using simple finger dexterity manages to get the mind thinking. I find it fascinating.

A Maze Race

Okay so today I had a choosing of a Race to the End game or a Territorial Acquisition type game. So I decided to play a Race to the End game. The rules were simple, your character is a green ball and you are stuck in a maze where you have to maneuver around as fast as you can and get to a flag at the end of the maze. Also you're racing against another red ball and first one there wins the game. I played to round three and lost. It was a simple game but took not only good finger dexterity but the capability to move around a maze at a fast pace. I felt like a little kid playing it but it was fun anyways. I also played a little bit during my Professional Communications class and completely zoned out, and was forced to turn off my monitor. :)

Sequence

Today I played two rounds of a game I'm not familiar with, known as SEQUENCE.
First round i was partnered with Chris unfortunately we lost. We had to use cards on a mat, and basically it was a more creative version of bingo and tic- tac- toe. The concept was to get a sequence of 5 in a row which is where the similarity comes from to other sequential games like this one. I had eventually gotten the hang of it, and played a second round with Bryan and David sadly we lost that as well, but overall it was fun to play a basic board like game, using cards and tokens. I was more concerned with getting the aspect of the game rather than winning it.
